3rd Annual 2016 Snowflake Streakers Raise $65,000 for Saint Vincent Clinic
With more than 30 teams and 325 walkers, supporters and volunteers in attendance, the Third Annual Snowflake Streak benefiting Saint Vincent Clinic was the most successful walk to date. The one-mile event was held on Jan. 24 at the Riverfront Community Center and attracted walkers from all over the Kansas City metropolitan area.
“We are very pleased to announce that we raised $65,000,” said Amy Falk, Caritas Clinics, Inc. Executive Director. “We could not have accomplished this without our generous sponsors including St. Luke’s Cushing Hospital, Presenting Sponsor; Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, Start Line Sponsor; Saint John Hospital, Finish Line Sponsor; Country Club Bank, Pancake Breakfast Sponsor; and Citizens Savings & Loan Assoc., Beverage Station Sponsor, and as well as our fundraising teams.”
Other Snowflake Streak sponsors included Exchange National Bank & Trust Co.; Julius Kaaz Construction; Kansas Gas Service; Leavenworth Times; TenPenny Restaurant & Bar; Walmart; BKD LLP CPAs and Advisors; Cereal Ingredients, Inc.; Commerce Bank; Great Western Manufacturing Co., Inc.; DeGoler Pharmacy; Geiger Ready Mix Co., Inc.; Leavenworth Family Dental; Tire Town, Inc.; and University of Saint Mary.
According to Ron Romig, the 2016 Snowflake Streak Grand Marshal, the event’s success is attributed to the many people who give their time and efforts. “We saw an outpouring of support from every sector of our community,” he said. “This included team captains, individual fundraisers to Brandon Johannes serving as emcee and Steve Grant and Pat Kitchens helping with the walk logistics to the Snowflake Streak committee members and day-of event volunteers. It was awesome and humbling to see how this community comes together to help those most in need.”
“This year, we were able to continue the momentum of this fundraising event because of the dedication of so many,” he added. “The teams were focused, competitive and creative. It really reflects the type of people we have living and working in Leavenworth County. “
To add to the fun, prizes were awarded to TenPenny Restaurant & Bar who raised the most at $8,301 for the “Top Fundraising Team” Award; St. Luke’s Cushing Hospital for “Biggest Team” with 46 members; Heartland Dental for “Most Fun Team”; Citizens Savings & Loan Assoc. for “Good Citizens” Award; Cereal Ingredients, Inc. for “Sweetheart” Award; Country Club Bank for “Corporate Leadership” Award; and Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth for “Super Bowl MVPs” Award.
Prior to the walk, participants warmed up with Zumba led by Karen Kohl and Kathy Barnett and the walk concluded with a pancake breakfast.
Saint Vincent Clinic is Leavenworth County’s only safety-net clinic, providing ongoing medical care through 8,000 services to more than 300 uninsured adults each year.
